Good Afternoon Mexia Blackcats,
This morning a major water line broke between the JH and HS, which resulted in a 2-hour delayed start. This delay was necessary, because without running water, facilities would not be able to operate and function properly: i.e. bathrooms, hand washing, water fountains, and cafeteria operations shut down.
As soon as district staff was notified, we initiated our established communication protocols to immediately notify stakeholders via social media and our integrated messaging system. The system pushed out text notifications to parents, guardians, and staff via their cell phone as well as posting to social media. It was soon discovered that some parents/guardians did not receive the message. It was determined that one of the data files linking the contacts to the messenger system failed to connect. This issue has since been resolved through the vendor. In times of need, we will continue to communicate with all stakeholders through our social media platforms, our district website, and through the use of integrated messaging systems.
We will send out a message today at 6:00pm via text, email and phone call to test our communications.. If you do not receive this message in one or more of these ways, please report to your child’s campus tomorrow and they will help you in updating your contact information. Likewise, we encourage you to follow Mexia ISD on our Facebook page and Twitter.
Good Evening Blackcats,
We are so excited to see our students tomorrow morning! Please remember that extra safety measures are in place so entrance to each campus will take longer than usual. Please help us serve you better by not bringing the prohibited items listed below:
* bags of any kind (with the exception of diaper bags)
* knives of any kind, vapes/lighters/tobacco
* weapons of any kind.
We hope everyone has a fantastic evening and we can’t wait to see you tomorrow!

Blackcat family,
Due to potential inclement weather conditions and weather forecasts that continue to change, out of an abundance of caution, Mexia ISD will have a 2-hour delayed start tomorrow, Thursday, February 24, 2022. Buses will run exactly two hours later than normal.
District staff will reevaluate road conditions early tomorrow morning. If conditions allow, we will continue with the delayed start. If conditions are deemed too dangerous and closure becomes necessary, that decision will be announced no later than 6:00 a.m.
Stay safe and warm.
The MISD Board of Trustees approved to amend the 2021-2022 Instructional Calendar to change the early dismissal days on March 4, 2022 and May 24, 2022 to become full days of instruction. This will ensure that MISD meets the minimum number of 75,600 instructional minutes as required by the Texas Education Agency and receive full funding. Please see the attached calendar for details.
Blackcat Family,
We have been informed our district phone lines are down because there was a major cut to the line. Technicians are currently working on the issue and said they will contact us with more updates when they are available.
Please send an email to your child's school principal if communication is needed before our phone lines are back up.

Blackcat family,
Due to anticipated winter weather making roads unsafe for travel, Mexia ISD will be closed Thursday, February 3, 2022. The district will reevaluate the situation tomorrow and make a decision for Friday no later than 4:00pm tomorrow.
This closure includes all extracurricular and athletic activities. Unfortunately, student meals will not be available during this closure.
Stay safe and warm.
Blackcat Family,
Following ongoing guidance from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to prioritize in-person instruction, we returned to school today following a temporary closure to try to break the covid cycle we were experiencing. Unfortunately, the number of staff and students who are dealing with covid continued to heavily impact attendance today. In consultation with our local office of Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), the numbers we saw today were unexpected and alarming following this closure.
The most current updates posted on the CDC website state that “the science is evolving, particularly for the Omicron variant...” Considering the CDC’s framework concerning the incubation period, as well as isolation/quarantine timeframes for Omicron, all factors indicate that a 7-day closure is necessary now, given our exceptionally high number of cases.
Taking all this information into account, Mexia ISD will close tomorrow, Wednesday, January 19, 2022 thru next Tuesday, January 25, 2022.
This includes all extracurricular and athletic activities. We plan to resume all classes and activities on Wednesday, January 26, 2022.
Tomorrow MISD staff will conduct a comprehensive cleaning and disinfecting of all campuses and buses.
*** Student Meals will be made available each weekday during this closure for Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner. Pickup between 10AM-1PM at Sims Intermediate main entrance via curbside. Meals may be picked up for multiple MISD enrolled students. Students do not need to be present for pick-up of meals.
***MISD nurses will be available to administer covid tests for MISD students and staff during the district closure weekdays 10AM-2PM at RQ Sims main entrance. Please remain in your vehicle, the nurse will come outside test you.
Blackcats,
We have been monitoring our covid situation closely and unfortunately the number of positive cases continue to rise and attendance is declining. In an effort to break the cycle of spreading the virus, Mexia ISD will close this Thursday and Friday, January 13-14, 2022.
This includes all extracurricular and athletic activities. Monday is a scheduled holiday for staff and students. We will resume all classes and activities on Tuesday, January 18th.
Buses will run at regular time this afternoon.
Tomorrow MISD staff will conduct a comprehensive cleaning and disinfecting of all campuses and buses.
Student meals will be made available Thursday and Friday for Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.
Pickup is from 10AM-1PM at Sims Intermediate & JH campuses main entrances via curbside.
Meals may be picked up for multiple MISD enrolled students. Students do not need to be present for pick up of meals.
Friday, December 17th Early Release for all campuses.
School Resumes on Wednesday, January 5, 2022.
