August 18th - Substitute Teacher Training
Parents, are you having trouble communicating with your child's teacher through the Mexia ISD app? Please make sure you have updated your app to version 5.2.
1:22PM Update: Oncor is exceeding expectations and we already have power back at some campuses. Parents may still come pick up your students if desired. Please keep in mind that law enforcement is directing traffic patterns. As of now, the district plans to dismiss at regular time and buses will run as usual. After school activities are yet to be determined depending on circumstances at that time.
12:47PM Announcement: Due to a vehicle knocking down an electric power line, currently all district facilities are without electricity. This also means our phones and email are not functioning. Preliminary estimates from Oncor indicate the earliest possibility to restore power is 2:30pm, possibly much later. As a result, the district is working on a plan and more information will be coming soon. Students are safe and are being fed lunch.
Due to the inclement weather, we are postponing the 8:00 pm “Meet the Blackcats” event. Rescheduled TBD. The indoor “Meet the Teacher” will continue as scheduled at each campus.
Sending out a HUGE SHOUT OUT to Mexia Area Chamber of Commerce and Northcrest Church of Christ for going the extra mile to feed us delicious meals this week and bless us with thoughtful gifts!!! You guys ROCK!

We are missing a few in the photo to offsite trainings, but feel blessed to have been able to snag all these amazing recruits.

Good Afternoon Blackcats,
Please be aware that HB 1481 is sitting on the Governor's desk for a potential signature. This bill would ban student cell phones and other electronic communication devices such as smart watches/glasses during the school day for all students, except those with a verified medical need. We will update as we learn more about whether or not it will be signed into law.

Mexia ISD is pleased to offer free Grab and Go summer meals for children 18 years and younger, as well as enrolled students with disabilities up to age 21.
Location: RQ Sims Intermediate
Dates: May 27 – July 1, 2025 (Monday through Friday)
Breakfast: 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM
Lunch: 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM
Weekend meals will be distributed on Fridays.
Important Note: If a child is not present at pickup, meals may only be collected by a parent or legal guardian of the child.
We look forward to serving our community and helping ensure all children have access to nutritious meals throughout the summer!
