I am pleased to share with you that last night the MISD board of trustees approved a couple of new Blackcats for the 2023-2024 school year.
Mr. Marcus Wilson is returning home to MISD as the new Sims Intermediate Principal after serving as an Assistant Principal for many years in the Waco area.
Mrs. Belinda Cotton continues serving the students and staff of Mexia ISD and will be the new Assistant Principal for McBay Elementary.
Congratulations to both of these outstanding people! It's a great day to be a Blackcat!

SIMS Intermediate will have an ACE Summer Camp!! Students who have earned their spot to attend throughout the year will be receiving an invitation later this week. Summer ACE camp will begin on May 30th and end on June 29th (Monday-Thursday 7:45 a.m.-2:00p.m.) They can be dropped off beginning at 7:30 am and we will offer limited bus transportation. We will offer reading, math, science skills through fun activities as well as enrichment opportunities and field trips. Parents, take advantage of our summer enrichment program to give your child a jump start for next school year. Please complete the form that will be sent home with your child, check YES or NO, along with your signature, and return by May 16th. We have a limited number of spaces. First come; First served.

Tonight the MISD Board of Trustees approved two recommendations for hire for the upcoming school year.
First, I am pleased to share with you that LaKechia Johnson will be moving from the Principal of Sims Intermediate to become the new Executive Director of Human Resources.
Also, the new CTE Director will be Mrs. Christine Walker who is joining us from Spring Branch ISD where she has been helping them build and expand their CTE programs from the ground up for nearly 20 years.
It's a great day to be a Blackcat!

The MISD board of trustees approved an amendment to the 2022-2023 (current) school year calendar. MISD will be closed on Thursday, April 6, 2023 in order to accommodate the Little Dribblers National Tournament which will be conducted in all district gymnasiums.

Tonight the MISD Board of Trustees approved the 2023-2024 Instructional Calendar (attached). We will continue working on details of the Accelerated Instruction Weeks and share when those are finalized.
Also, I am pleased to announce that Shelli Killingsworth will be moving into the role of Executive Director of Student Programs for the 2023-2024 school year. Prior to being the Executive Director of Human Resources, Mrs. Killingsworth worked with Bilingual/ESL, Migrant, Homeless, and Foster Care programs. She also spent time working with RtI and Gifted and Talented programs. Mrs. Killingsworth is very excited to continue to serve the students and staff of Mexia ISD in this new role.
