In December, our students competed in classroom spelling bees to become the grade level champions. Then last Friday, our grade level champions competed in our school wide spelling bee for a chance to represent RQ Sims Intermediate School in the National Scripps Spelling Bee Challenge in March in Dallas, Texas!

Mark your calendars! MLK Parade and Program!
On Jan 13, St Luke's United Methodist Church will host the annual MLK Jr Day Parade through Downtown Mexia. Afterwards, there will be a program at the Civic Center entitled "Shifting Priorities to Promote Unity and Justice".
The MHS Band will be performing as well as other organizations.
If you would like to be a part of the parade, please meet at the First United Methodist Church in Mexia at 10:00AM.
The Parade will start at 11:00 AM.
There is also an art and essay contest with cash prizes. See the graphics below for information. Entries are due Jan 7.

Our students enjoyed the Big Kahuna Party Bus last week as their reward for selling 15 or more items during our fall fundraiser! We are super proud of them!

Christmas at the Fort...
Christmas at the Fort was a great experience! Students learned some sign language, listened to folk music and the story of Cynthia Ann Parker, visited with Santa, made rope, played with old fashioned toys, and strung popcorn and cranberries for the birds!
