Mrs. Carolyn Cummings

Carolyn Cummings joined Mexia ISD in 2007 and is currently working as the McBay principal for Blackcat Nation.  She earned her bachelor's degree from Texas A&M (Commerce) and her master’s degree from Stephen F. Austin University.  Carolyn holds the following educational certifications: EC-4 and Principal.

Mrs. Cummings’s career has prepared her to serve the students of Mexia in many ways.  She began her career as the Education Coordinator for HCCAA Head Start.  She then worked in various capacities for Mexia ISD, Dallas ISD and Waco ISD.  Her roles have included: teacher (1st, 3rd & GT), master teacher, reading coach, instructional specialist, assistant principal, principal, and assistant to the dean of instruction.

Mrs. Cummings was born and raised in Mexia.  She married Robert Cummings, Jr., in Waco, TX and they have a blended family of ten (eight daughters and two sons).  They are also blessed with six grandchildren.  When not working, Carolyn enjoys shopping, reading and watching HGTV.  Some of the organizations where she devotes additional time and energy are the Texas Association of School Administrators, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and Rising Star Baptist Church Coordinator of Women’s Ministry.

Mr. Roberto Gomez

Roberto Gomez joined Mexia ISD in 2024 and is currently working as the McBay Assistant Principal for Blackcat Nation.  He earned his bachelor's degree from Tarleton State University and his master’s degree from Texas Tech University.  Roberto’s educational certifications include 7-12 Social Studies, Texas Instructional Leadership, Advancing Educational Leadership, and Youth Mental Health First Aid.

Mr. Gomez’s career has prepared him to serve the students of Mexia in many ways.  He began his career in Hearne ISD, where he served as a teacher, mentor, summer school manager, project manager and student council advisor. Following Hearne, Roberto was hired by Groesbeck ISD to be the middle school athletic coordinator, athletic coach and mentor.  

Mr. Gomez grew up in Bronx & Hudson, NY.  He married Ashley in 2014, and they have one son.   When not working, Roberto enjoys watching movies, traveling, and being a firearms instructor. The organizations where he devotes additional time and energy are the Texas Council for Social Studies (scholarship committee), National Council for Social Studies, and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
