Renewal and Review of the Mexia ISD District of Innovation Plan Set to Begin
The vision of the Mexia Independent School District is to create a public school district where students are motivated by success, dedicated to helping others, and successful in post-secondary endeavors. The mission of MISD is to accomplish this vision in such a way that the employees, students, community and taxpayers are proud.
House Bill 1842, Section 4 passed in the 84th Texas Legislative Session, provides an opportunity for Texas public school districts to be designated as Districts of Innovation, thereby allowing them the flexibility to be exempt from or modify state requirements at the local level to better meet the needs of the students and personalize learning.
Districts of Innovation provide opportunities for:
- Greater local control;
- Increased flexibility governing education programming; and
- Empowerment to innovate and think differently.
Districts are not exempt from statutes related to curriculum, graduation requirements, nor academic and financial accountability.
This innovation plan was developed by a diverse group of members, including teachers, administrators, parents, school trustees, district staff, and community members representing all MISD campuses and stakeholders. The original plan was adopted in March of 2017 and is set to expire in March 2022.
The District Site Base Committee will hold a meeting on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. in the MHS library to discuss renewal and possible amendments.
