Mr. Brad Andrews

Brad Andrews joined Mexia ISD in 2021 and is currently working as the Deputy Superintendent for Blackcat Nation.  He earned his bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University (College Station) and his master’s degree from the University of Texas (Arlington).  Brad holds the following certifications: secondary history, kinesiology, principal and superintendent.

 Mr. Andrews’ career has prepared him to serve the students of Mexia in many ways.  He worked most of his career in Waxahachie ISD (20+ years). He was a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and principal. Brad started his career in coaching beginning in 1997. He left education in 2001 for three years and worked in the corporate world doing IT work for a telecommunications company in Plano, TX. Mr. Andrews went back into education (Waxahachie, 2004) and has remained in this field ever since, as that is where his heart was and continues to be. Brad came to work in Mexia in 2021 as Assistant Superintendent of Operations, Information & Technology and was promoted to Deputy Superintendent in 2023.  

 Mr. Andrews grew up in Spring Tx.  He married Carrie in 1994.  They have one son, Cade.  When not working, Brad enjoys jeeping, hunting and camping. The organizations where he devotes additional time and energy are Northcrest Church of Christ where he teaches Bible class and Texas Association of School Administrators.

Bomar

Dr. Bonnie Bomar

Bonnie Bomar joined Mexia ISD in 2024 and is currently working as the Executive Director of Curriculum & Instruction for Blackcat Nation.  She earned her bachelor's degree from Texas A&M (Corpus Christi), her master’s degree from Lamar University (Beaumont), and her PhD in Curriculum & Instruction from Texas A&M University (Corpus Christi).  Bonnie holds the following educational certifications:biology, composite science 6-12, principal, EC-12 and superintendent.

Dr. Bomar’s career has prepared her to serve the students of Mexia in many ways.  She began her career as a Physics teacher for ten years at Mary Carroll High School in Corpus Christi.  While still in Corpus Christi, Bonnie began her career in administration as an instructional coach (districtwide) and administrator for academics and accountability.  Dr. Bomar then transitioned to Beeville ISD, where she worked as the Director for Talent Acquisition & Development, followed by her promotion to Executive Director for Learning & Innovation.  The last five years, Bonnie served as the principal of Groesbeck High School. Her focus has been on students and on building instructional capacity in all educators. It is important to her to be a driving force for positive movement in the educational profession, which led to her work on her dissertation, which focused on retention of educators in the field of science. Dr. Bomar loves the work she has been part of in education and is committed to making a difference for all educators and ultimately all students.  

Dr. Bomar grew up all over the world and the United States.  She married Jerry Bomar in 2017.  Bonnie has one son, one stepson and one stepdaughter.  Together, the Bomars are blessed with ten grandchildren.  When not working, Bonnie enjoys golf, the beach, and DIY projects at home.

Mrs. Lakechia Johnson

LaKechia Johnson joined Mexia ISD in 2019 and is currently working as the Executive Director of Human Resources for Blackcat Nation.  She earned her bachelor's degree from Texas A&M (Commerce) and her master’s degree from Lamar University.  LaKechia holds the following educational certifications: Legacy Master Reading Teacher EC-12, Physical Education EC-12, Elementary 1-8, Special Education, ESL, Principal and Superintendent.

Mrs. Johnson’s career has prepared her to serve the students of Mexia in many ways.  She began her career working nights at Mexia State Supported Living Center while working to obtain her alternative teacher certification through ESC Region 12. LaKechia started teaching in 2001 at Malone ISD and was there for eighteen years. She taught 3rd-5th grade, 6th-8th grade ELAR, as well as coached cross country, volleyball, basketball and track. Mrs. Johnson was Assistant Principal at Malone ISD for seven years before coming to McBay as the assistant principal in 2019. She was at McBay for two years and then transitioned to principal at Sims for two years before moving to her current position. 

Mrs. Johnson grew up in Dallas, Texas.  She married Kentral Johnson in 2004.  When not working, LaKechia devotes additional time and energy to being a member of Phi Delta Kappa Sorority (teachers).

Mrs. Shelli Killingsworth

Shelli Killingsworth joined Mexia ISD in 1990 and is currently working as the Executive Director of Student Programs for Blackcat Nation.  She earned her bachelor's degree from Sam Houston State University and her master’s degree from Tarleton State University.  Shelli’s educational certifications include: EC-6 Generalist, Master Reading Teacher and Principal (PK-12).

Mrs. Killingsworth’s career has prepared her to serve the students of Mexia in many ways.  She began her career in education as a 5th grade teacher in Mexia ISD, then taught Special Education Resource (second & third grades) for one year, followed by fourteen years as a kindergarten teacher.  She worked as a reading coach for four years, and four years as an assistant principal.  Shelli became principal at McBay Elementary and served in this capacity for two and a half years before moving to the administration building as Director of District Services, followed by Executive Director of Human Resources.  

Mrs. Killingsworth grew up in Mexia.  She married Tony in 1992, and they have two daughters.  They are also blessed with two grandchildren.  When not working, Shelli enjoys reading, painting, and being a grammy.  The organizations where she devotes additional time and energy are the Mexia Woman’s Friday Club (Vice President), First Baptist Church Missions Committee, and Texas State Network of Assessment Professionals.

DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS

Nowell

Mr. Aaron Nowell

Aaron Nowell joined Mexia ISD in 2021 and is currently working as the Athletic Director/Head Football Coach for Blackcat Nation.  He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Arlington.  Aaron’s highest educational certification held is EC-12 Physical Education and 8-12 Life Science.

Coach Nowell’s career has prepared him to serve the students of Mexia in many ways.  After leaving the private sector, he started his coaching journey as a volunteer at Pantego Christian Academy.  He served 5 years as a volunteer coach.  Upon completion of his degree, he was hired at Sam Houston High School in Arlington, TX, where he spent one year.  After leaving Sam Houston, he went to Cedar Hill High School.  His team had a great run during his time there, culminating in two state championship appearances and winning it all in 2013.  In 2014, he returned to Arlington ISD, but this time at Martin High School.  In 2016, he became a defensive coordinator for the first time at Broken Arrow HS in Oklahoma.  He quickly returned to the great state of Texas and caught lightning in a bottle in 2017 with another state game appearance with Midway High School.  He was at Midway for four years, serving as both the defensive line coach and defensive coordinator.  In June of 2020, he became a Blackcat!  .  

Coach Nowell grew up in Grand Prairie, Texas.  He married Laura in 1997.  They have Addyson, Bryson (Mexia class of '21), Mayson and Jaclyn.  When not working, Aaron enjoys spending time with his family. The organizations where he devotes additional time and energy are THSCA (Texas High School Coaches Association), AFCA (America Football Coaches Association) and THSADA (Texas High School Athletic Directors Association).

Walker

Mrs. Christine Walker

Christine Walker joined Mexia ISD in 2023 and is currently working as the Career & Technical Education Director for Blackcat Nation.  She earned her bachelor's degree from University of Houston.  Christine’s educational certifications include Marketing Education 8-12 and Secondary Basic Business 6-12.

Mrs. Walker’s career has prepared her to serve the students of Mexia in many ways.  She began her career in the private sector, where her first “real” job was doing medical billing and collections for a team of anesthesiologists. She has 13 years of industry experience in business and marketing, followed by 17 years teaching experience. Her move to education was driven by the desire to help teenagers gain the knowledge and skills necessary to prepare them for the workforce. Once she discovered Career & Technical Education, she was ALL IN!! In 2003, she began her teaching career at Sealy High School (Sealy ISD), followed by James E. Taylor High School (Katy ISD), and then Stratford High School (Spring Branch ISD).  Outside of the classroom, Mrs. Walker has served in an advisor role for Future Business Leaders of America and then for Business Professionals of America.  And in 2020, she took on a district role as a CTE Program Manager in Spring Branch ISD.

Mrs. Walker grew up in Colorado.  She married Scott in 1990, and they have one daughter (Ashly).  When not working, Christine enjoys reading, drinking coffee on the patio, and shopping. The organization where she devotes additional time and energy is the Career & Technical Association of Texas.

Chapa

Mrs. Erika Chapa

Erika Chapa joined Mexia ISD in 2014 and is currently working as the Director of Business & Finance for Blackcat Nation.  She earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Texas A&M (Commerce).  Mrs. Chapa has her RTSBA (Registered Texas School Business Administrator) Certificate from TASBO.  

Mrs. Chapa’s career has prepared her to serve the students of Mexia in many ways.  She began her career in the business office as the secretary to the Finance & Business Director in March of 2014. Over time, she transitioned through various departments within the finance and business office, gaining valuable experience in areas such as accounts payable and payroll. In May 2021, she assumed the role of Business and Finance Director. 

Mrs. Chapa was born & raised in Mexia, graduating from Mexia as a member of the class of 2007.  She married Efrain Chapa in 2009, and they have two daughters (Adalee & Zayli).  When not working, Erika enjoys reading, going to the gym, and traveling with her family. The educational organizations where she devotes additional time and energy are TASBO and TASA.

Minter

Mr. Alvis Minter

Alvis Minter joined Mexia ISD in 2006 and is currently working as the Director of Maintenance, Custodial & Transportation for Blackcat Nation.

Mr. Minter’s career has prepared him to serve the students of Mexia in many ways.  He began his career as the Director of Transportation for Crandall ISD and worked there from 1995 to 2006 before transitioning to his current role.  

Mr. Minter grew up in Crandall/Dallas, Texas .  He married Sabrina Jacobs in 2012, and they have one son and three daughters.  They are also blessed with six grandchildren.  When not working, Alvis enjoys cars and devotes time and energy to Toys for Tots.

Jenkins

Mrs. Jozette Jenkins

Jozette Jenkins joined Mexia ISD in 2019 and is currently working as the Director of Special Education for Blackcat Nation.  She earned her bachelor's degree from McMurry University and her master’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University.  Jozette has earned the following educational certifications: principal, school counselor and special education.

Mrs. Jenkins’s career has prepared her to serve the students of Mexia in many ways.  She began her career as a paraprofessional in 1994 with Kenley School for Children with Learning Disabilities in Abilene, Texas. Her first teaching job was in 1995 with San Augustine HS as a Life Skills Teacher. Jozette has been employed with several school districts throughout her career to include: Waxahachie ISD, Oakwood ISD, Trinity ISD and Palestine ISD before joining Mexia ISD.  She has also served in several diverse capacities: content mastery teacher, psychology teacher, coach (track and basketball), lead inclusion specialist, school counselor, assistant principal and  athletic coordinator.  While involved with athletics, she lead Buffalo High School to the state finals as their head basketball coach.  Most recently, Mrs. Jenkins served as the Principal of the DC Campus for our district before her promotion to Director.  

Mrs. Jenkins grew up in Dallas, TX and married Marvin in 1993.  They have two daughters and are also blessed with one grandchild.  When not working, Jozette enjoys fishing, traveling and spending time with family and friends.  She also devotes additional time and energy to Texas Association for Alternative Education, Texas Council of Administrators of Special Education and Texas Association of Secondary School Principals.

Rice

Ms. Cheryl Rice

Cheryl Rice joined Mexia ISD in 2017 and is currently working as the PEIMS Coordinator for Blackcat Nation.  She earned her bachelor's degree from Stephen F. Austin State University.  Cheryl’s highest educational certification held is TASBO Registered School Business Administrator.

Ms. Rice’s career has prepared her to serve the students of Mexia in many ways.  She began her career in the education field in 2001,  working in higher education as an academic advisor/orientation teacher.  She has also had various roles in K-12 education, including tech teacher, database manager and SIS/TSDS specialist.  

Ms. Rice grew up in Houston, Fairfield and Wortham, with some summer softball in Mexia.  She has a daughter (Taylor) and son (Connor).  She is also blessed with one granddaughter (Reese O’Quinn).  When not working, Cheryl enjoys quilting, arrowhead hunting and gardening.

Mr. Eric Shamblin

Eric Shamblin joined Mexia ISD in 2012 and is currently working as the Coordinator of Procurement, Capital Assets & Inventory Management for Blackcat Nation.  He earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Texas A&M (Commerce).  Eric’s educational certifications include Math 4-8, Generalist 4-8 and Principal.

Mr. Shamblin’s career has prepared him to serve the students of Mexia in many ways.  He began his career in 2011 at Marlin MIddle School (Marlin ISD,) where he was a 7th grade math teacher and coach.  Eric then transitioned to Mexia Junior High (Mexia ISD), where he taught math and science, as well as coaching.  In January of 2019, Mr. Shamblin was promoted to Assistant Principal at R.Q. Sims Intermediate School, where he served until his promotion to Coordinator..  

Mr. Shamblin grew up in Mexia, TX.  He married Kristin in 2009, and they have three sons.  When not working, Eric enjoys traveling, swimming, and learning new skills. And the organizations where he devotes additional time and energy are TEPSA, ATPE (member), Stone Church (elder & member), little league baseball (former coach) and flag football.

Allen

Mr. L. Drew Allen

Drew Allen joined Mexia ISD in 2020 and is currently working as the I.T. Coordinator for Blackcat Nation.  He earned his bachelor's degree from College of Biblical Studies.  Mr. Allen’s career has prepared him to serve the students of Mexia in many ways.  He began his career with a strong inclination toward technology, which led him to pursue various I.T. positions during high school and college. These early roles provided him with a solid foundation in IT and reinforced his passion for the field.

After college, Drew transitioned into full-time ministry positions. In these roles, he managed audio-visual and lighting systems, ensuring seamless operations for various events and services. As his responsibilities grew, he also took on graphic design and video editing tasks. These skills were primarily learned on the job, supplemented by professional training.In 2020, Mr. Allen made a significant career shift by entering the education sector. The potential to leverage his IT skills in this new environment was particularly appealing. By 2022, he had joined the I.T. Department at Mexia Independent School District. In this role, he embraces a service-first approach, always striving to provide timely and effective IT support to ensure the success of both teachers and students. Understanding the urgency of their needs, he is dedicated to resolving issues promptly and efficiently.  

Drew grew up in Wortham, TX.  He married Juliann in 2010.  They have two sons and one daughter.  When not working, Drew enjoys spending time with family & friends, hunting, golf and helping his kids raise their show steers. The organizations where he devotes additional time and energy are as the Pastor of Stone Church, All Pro Dad (Mexia Team Captain), and Mexia Chamber of Commerce (Chairman 2018-2019).
